Disco indispensable junto al Rust in Peace y el Countdown to Extinction

Japanese edition of Megadeth's sixth studio album with four bonus tracks.
From RateYourMusic: I tell you, I'm not your typical metalhead. You see, I do not mind a band going in a different stylistic direction. I do not care. I demand, however, that the style they choose not blow ass (like nu-metal or grunge does) and that they do it competently. Had Metallica's "Load" and "ReLoad" crapshoots been better produced and better written, I wouldn't have minded so much. Hell, the idea of a good hard rock album by Metallica actually excites me, because I think they could do it, they just refuse to. Megadeth has had this same fit of mediocrity at times, but Mustaine is a better musician than those four other guys, so he's always made his albums work. Case in point = "Youthanasia." This is indeed metal, but its almost like traditional metal and focuses on being very catchy. You may think this screams sell out from the days of thrash glory, but this was 1994 after all. If you think catchy choruses and trad metal riffs were "in" in 1994, I will make you listen to a hodgepodge of Pearl Jam, KoRn, Rage Against the Machine, and 4 Non Blondes until your fucking head explodes.
THIS IS METAL!!! But its more of a traditional form of it. Very catchy, not to mention that it sounds like a totally different band. Whoa... you mean thrash metallers could evolve and not suck? Somebody didn't pass that memo on Scott Ian, whose once mighty Anthrax was kicking out shit stain grunge rock around this time.
Down to business... "Reckoning Day" is awesome. Nice riff and its the fastest tune here. I also like the ballad "A Tout le Monde." "Family Tree" is fucking catchy as hell, probably the catchiest Megadeth song ever... and its about incest. Dear me. "Elysian Fields" and "Blood of Heroes" both have memorable and fun choruses. Oh my goodness! This is catchy! Catchier than "Countdown to Extinction" and most of these songs are better than the ones off that album. Its not even thrash!
Had you told me before I ever heard this album that Megadeth wrote a non-thrash album that I would love, I would promptly tell you to burn in hell. Back then, I didn't know thrash bands could write non-thrash albums and it not suck. I had already heard "Load" by that time, and pretty much assumed all non-thrash albums by thrash bands were designed to blow ass. Well this does not blow ass, this actually kicks ass with some simple yet totally effective songwriting. This is coming from someone who thinks good thrash metal is better than sex, so you have some perspective on how good this is. I understand... you're hesitant to listen to Megadeth without it being thrash, but trust me, this is quite good.
