*** USA *** Biography: In 1947, 22-year-old Elizabeth Short was the victim of a gruesome murder
in Los Angeles. Her killer was never caught and the case became
sensationalized as, "The Black Dahlia Murder."
That name now extends beyond one of the country's most famous unsolved
murder cases. It is also the name of a successful melodic death metal
band.
Formed in 2001 in Waterford, Michigan, The Black Dahlia Murder released
their first album, "Unhallowed," in 2003. But it was not until two years
later that they began gaining more and more recognition. The group's
second album, "Miasma," hit number 118 on Billboard and number five on
the U.S. Indie chart. From there, their heavy, fast-paced guitar playing
and growling vocals attracted more and more fans. The Black Dahlia
Murder's last two albums, "Ritual" and "Everblack," both made it on the
top 35 of the Billboard Chart and peaked at number three on the U.S.
Hard Rock chart.
The band has gone through several lineup changes since their formation
in 2001. Only two original members have remained with The Black Dahlia
Murder, lead singer Trevor Strnad and rhythm guitarist Brian Eschbach.
The rest of their current lineup consists of Ryan Knight on lead guitar,
Max Lavelle on bass and Alan Cassidy on drums.
When it comes to influences on their music, the members of The Black
Dahlia Murder list plenty of bands that have played a role in the
development of their style. These include: Pantera, Metallica, Iron
Maiden, Judas Priest, Carcass, In Flames, Darkthrone and Megadeath.
