MANIC STREET PREACHERS - Forever Delayed The Greatest Hits. Video-Compilation

The Manics are an intriguing group, with music spanning just about every flavour of 'rock' music. This DVD showcases it all, from the decadent pink punk early years through to the modern indie stuff. All this, plus the promo videos, which often say a lot more about the band. The collection is superb, giving every Manics video (including 2 versions of You Love Us) plus a remix section. The videos are arranged chronologically, beginning with Motown Junk and ending with There By The Grace Of God, which is a better idea than the Forever Delayed CD's muddled mix.
This disc really highlights the progression of the visual identity of the band through the years. The early videos are raw and cheap, usually just concert footage, but convey excellently the power of the music. In the post-Richey years the videos move more towards high concept and high art, although they are never afraid to resort to sloganeering as a link to the past (see A Design For Life or Tsunami).
The Know Your Enemy era is largely forgetable, and marks the only blot on a flawless DVD. So Why So Sad has a mildly entertaining video, but thats about it. However, this needs to be present to make it complete, so its forgiveable.
The remixes vary wildly, and I suppose it will depend on tastes as to which ones you like, but its a nice addition to have, especially as some of the videos for them are interesting.
The sound and video quality are superb, Dolby 5.1 is catered for and the videos seem to switch between 4:3 and 16:9 depending on how the original was produced. The only bugbear with the DVD is the slightly awkward menus, which are arranged by album with lone single warranting their own menu. This is annoying fo those wanting to skip to a later video.
