Japanese remastered edition of Ace Frehley's solo album edited in 1978, when every member of KISS recorded his own album. Some of the songs were originally composed by Frehley for Rock And Roll Over but they finally weren't included in that KISS album.
Frehley recorded a cover of the song New York Groove wich become a great successful single.
From RateYourMusic: Frehley needed to get away from Kiss if he was to actually be creative. The very different personalities withing the band must have been creating a strong urge in Frehley to make free from the shackles of Simmons and Stanley. In fact, spurred on by Frehley's need to go solo, it was suggested that ALL members go off and create solo albums. Unleash the alter egos that way. Keep the band together, take a break from each other and release a set of albums. Though, whose idea was it too brand the albums as Kiss? Frehley only sporadically got his songs on Kiss albums, yet they were often well composed driving hard rock songs. "Cold Gin", "Parasite" and "Shock Me" are testament to that. It's no surprize then that his album is a more free sounding album. Frehley may have a minimal style of playing but he certainly has his own tone and style. Ace makes the most of breaking free from Kiss and creates a neat slab of rock music. The four albums are very different but as a straight ahead rock album Frehley's works the most, Kiss were a rock band after all and here is Ace doing what he does best, so is it any wonder his was, is, the most popular? Stanley once said that "Ace got his Kiss music off on his solo album", which would second guess one to think that what he meant was that Ace couldn't achieve that feat as part of Kiss. Ace did his Ace album here, he was always stifled in Kiss. The album even provided a hit single in the shape of Russ Ballard's "New York Groove" and this album proved to be the biggest selling of the four Kiss solo albums. Sure, the hit song may have had much to do with that but this album is pretty decent anyway. I'm sure Simmons and Stanley raised an eyebrow at the time...
