Sexto álbum de estudio de esta banda de Rock Progresivo con influencias de todo tipo incluído el Metal. Compuesto durante las visicitudes de la banda para conseguir publicar su anterior álbum, Stupid Dream, por lo que fue publicado apenas un año después. El disco sigue la línea marcada por aquél y tiene temas realmente sobresalientes como Shesmovedon.
En esta edición japonesa en presentación mini-lp encontramos el álbum original en estéreo en HQ-CD más un DVD-Audio. En el CD hay una mezcla nueva del álbum en estéreo con la lista de temas original.
En el DVD-Audio viene el disco remezclado a sonido envolvente multicanal y la mezcla original del 2000 en estéreo de alta calidad junto con tres temas extras, fotos y las letras de los temas. A pesar de poder disfrutarse en cualquier DVD casero, lo recomendable es disponer de un equipo que reproduzca la parte de DVD-Audio con el 5.1 en alta calidad, o un software de PC compatible con este formato.

Japanese mini-lp edition of Porcupine Tree 6th studio album.
Along with the Cd, in HQ-CD format and a new mix of the album, comes a DVD-Audio with the original mix as well as a high resolution 5.1 mix. The DVD has a lot of bonus like lyrics, pictures and some bonus track. It's 100% playable in any DVD player but it is highly recommended to use a DVD-Audio player for enjoying the high resolution mix or a compatible software and sound card.
From RateYourMusic: This newly released two disk edition of Lightbulb Sun comes complete with the DVD-A version of the album and is housed inside a super jewel CD case with card over sleeve. The lucky ones amongst us who pre-ordered the package also got a bonus third disk which contains the highly rare Novak and Buying New Soul - recorded at Foel Studio on the 15th of March 2003. To be honest there have been so many different versions of the album it's become a bit of a farce, and it's a real shame that some of the bonus tracks from the other versions weren't incorporated into this package.
The album opens with the title track which is one of those rare tracks which sounds much better in the studio than in the live environment - the same can be said about Hatesong which is always a delightful bore when played live. In truth, even Last Chance... sounds better on disk and this is once of those albums who's sum total is better than all of the individual parts. Of course, there is nothing wrong with this and the record does flow nicely, providing a nice variety from harmonies to heavier passages to more acoustic prog. Bearing this in mind and taking the few extra titbits into account, it might not be the bands finest album but it's pretty darn fine.

Disc one is a CD containing a pristine remix / remaster of the album, while disc two is a DVDA (playable on any DVD player) containing the album remixed into 5.1 surround sound (in DVDA and DTS versions), as well as a 24 bit high resolution version of the stereo mix and the original 2000 mix/master. Also included are 5.1 mixes of bonus tracks Disappear, Buying New Soul, and Cure for Optimism, which were recorded during the same sessions. This is the definitive version of one of the essential albums in the PT catalogue.
