Van Halen third album remastered and edited in HDCD.
From RateYourMusic
Van Halen's third studio shot, Women and Children First, is an overlooked recording from the hard rockin' quartet from sunny and care-free Southern California. The cover sleeve photo captures the wild V.H. gang in over the top action and the tracks capture the heat and intensity. So hold back the brown m&m's... and crank the volume.
Although it's another abbreviated set of big riffs 'n' and wild jams from Eddie, Dave, Michael 'n' Alex, it's the quality of the cuts that are burned into the grooves that really matter. This time out V.H. called all the shots... there are no covers included on Women and Children First. The boys were in full "We Don't Fuck Around" (W.D.F.A. as the members of V.H. shortened it) mode, while Ted Templeman was once again the man in command of the board.
Ridin' high from the off with the high school drop-out rockin' "And The Cradle Will Rock...", which segues into the tribal drums of the sexed-up "Everybody Wants Some!!" (one explanation mark just wasn't enough), V.H. proved they were still the kings of the stateside hard rock scene as the eighties took hold.
The hard humpin' 'n' bass thumpin' "Fools", with it's damned-if-I-do-and-damned-if-I-don't lyrics, was pulled from Van Halen's early days, as was the chaotic "Loss of Control", which is introduced by the one-minute blast of "Tora! Tora!" (originally named "Act Like It Hurt" by E.V.H.). "Romeo's Delight" is a frantic track about squeezin' wild women and drainin' booze. The hard drinkin' action continues with "Take Your Whiskey Home". The only song served up to offset the onslaught of crushin' hard rock is the light-weight "Could This Be Magic?".
The four-minute-plus "In a Simple Rhyme" brings the LP to a close, with a short, un-named riff added to the end of the cut. The idea was to build on the throaty instrumental and open the next Van Halen album with a song that builds on the theme, thus providing a transition from album-to-album. Cool thought process, but Van Halen never followed-up on it when it came time to record the dark Fair Warning album.
