Zions Abyss from Canada released their legendary tape album back in 1991.
Zions Abyss play U.S. heavy/power metal of the highest possible quality, with a personal touch of lyricism being evident throughout. As with most Canadian bands, their musicianship is of the highest ilk, and their sound is fairly technical with many riff and tempo changes, but not in an irritating progressive way. They also incorporate some more melodic and virtuoso parts, that make the result even more musically interesting without affecting the "power" element, a combination very difficult to achieve. The vocals of Klaus Whissel are also superb, a flawless high pitched performance. Throw in excellent songs like "Final Command" in the mix, and what you have here is yet another undiscovered gem of the U.S. underground.
Sadly bad luck struck the bands door and guitarist Andy Waitkus passed away a few years after the release of this album. However, the Zion legacy remains strong with this amazing piece of virtuozo, melodic power metal. Simply a must have...
