Frédéric Slama is back with the latest installment of his AOR series, number fifteen to be precise, entitled "L.A Darkness", to be released next March 15th.
Joining him are an impressive list of singers including Jeff Scott Soto
and Steve Overland (FM), plus, as usual, Tommy Denander helps out on the
instrumental side of things.

You normally know what to expect on an AOR album; lots of laid back AOR
with a distinct West Coast / Toto feel. However since the last two
albums, things turned much more Melodic Rock oriented, almost Melodic
Hard on some tracks.
'Edgy' is the word, more like the rockier side of Foreigner, Toto et al.

This is clear from opener 'The Smartest Girl in L.A.', a driving melodic
rocker featuring the mighty Jeff Scott Soto in a track that fits him
like a glove.
There's some impressive vocal performances like Jesse Damon (Silent
Rage) on ‘Blueprint For Love’ and Kevin Chalfant ‘One Foot In Heaven’,
which sounds uncannily like one of his previous bands The Storm.
Ex Unruly Child's Philip Bardowell pops up on the AOR-tastic ‘Desire
Turning Into Dust’, surely time for another Places Of Power or solo
album from him?

FM’s Steve Overland never disappoints and has two songs on here, the
melodic bliss of ‘The Locked Soul’ and the bizarrely titled ‘Heart In
Pawn’ – nice mix of keys and guitar on this one.
‘Seven Storms’ sees a guest appearance from Prism’s Henry Small, who has
a crystal clear vocal and the song has a classic AOR feel. Those
missing the more laid back side of AOR will enjoy the instrumental
‘Burning Rainbows’ which recalls Toto circa their ‘Fahrenheit’ album.

The CD version adds two bonus songs including one featuring the King of
backing vocals on melodic rock albums (check your album credits on ones
from Whitesnake, Magnum, Richard Marx among others), Mr. Tommy
Funderburk on 'The Trail to Your Heart', appeared on a previous AOR
album but now remastered / remixed and sounding much better.

One of the best AOR releases to date and certainly the most rocking, in a
melodic sense of the word of course. Classic sound, classic
songwriting, classic performers... Do you need more?
