OZZY OSBOURNE - Discografía

(John Osbourne; Birmingham, 1948) Músico británico. Sus comienzos en la música datan de finales de los sesenta, cuando formó junto a Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler y Bill Ward el grupo de rock duro Black Sabbath. Tras el álbum de 1978 Never Say Die, Osbourne fue despachado de Black Sabbath y tuvo que encontrar la forma de vivir por sus propios medios.

Con el apoyo de su esposa y mánager Sharon, decidió montar un nuevo grupo; reclutó a Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley y Lee Kerslake y formó The Blizzard Of Oz. En el año 1981 vio la luz el primer álbum de este nuevo proyecto de Osbourne, con el título de Blizzard Of Oz, y con un estilo muy parecido al de Black Sabbath, tanto en las letras como en la música.
Los primeros cambios de formación se sucedieron a partir de entonces; Daisley y Kerslake se marcharon para ser sustituidos por Tommy Aldridge y Rudy Sarzo, justo antes de editar el segundo disco del grupo, Diaty Of A Madman. Este segundo disco vendió más que su predecesor y entró con fuerza en las listas estadounidenses, con lo que la fama de Osbourne aumentó considerablemente.

En aquella época tuvo lugar una peculiar anécdota en un concierto: Ozzy estaba actuando cuando un fan le lanzó un murciélago al escenario; ni corto ni perezoso, Ozzy le arrancó la cabeza de un mordisco pensando que era un artículo de broma. Por supuesto, el concierto tuvo que ser suspendido y Osbourne fue llevado a un hospital para ser vacunado de la rabia. Poco después, Rhoads falleció en un extraño accidente de aviación. Osbourne cayó en una depresión, al perder a uno de sus mejores amigos, y la banda se vio obligada a hacer una parada en su ascendente carrera.

En el año 1983 se editó Speak Of The Devil, grabaciones en directo de temas de Black Sabbath, con Brad Gillis a la guitarra. Ozzy fue liberado de su contrato con Jet Records y se presentó borracho a una entrevista en Epic Records acompañado de dos palomas. Una de ellas fue liberada y la otra murió de la misma manera que aquel pobre murciélago; como consecuencia de ello, Ozzy fue contratado por la multinacional.

Contrataron como nuevo guitarrista a Jake E. Lee, que trabajó ya en Bark At The Moon, editado en 1984. Aunque los trabajos de esta nueva época no tuvieron la consistencia de los anteriores, el disco tuvo el mismo éxito, o incluso más, que sus predecesores (a pesar de que Bark At The Moon fue considerado por muchos críticos como el peor disco de Ozzy Osbourne). El público, sin embargo, no parecía compartir este criterio, porque el disco fue otro bombazo de ventas.

Un año más tarde se editó Tribute, un disco grabado en directo en el año 1981 dedicado a Randy Rhoads; tras esta edición, Lee dejó el grupo y fue reemplazado por Zakk Wylde. Con ese nuevo elemento en la banda, uno de los discos más duros de Osbourne, No Rest For The Wicked, salió al mercado en el año 1989. Este disco marcó un punto de inflexión en la vida de Osbourne; a partir de entonces, dado que el músico deseaba pasar más tiempo junto a su familia, las giras y conciertos se hicieron muchos menos frecuentes. No More Tears llegó a finales de 1991, con una gira posterior que fue anunciada como la última, cuyos temas en directo aparecieron en 1993 recogidos en Live And Loud.

Sin embargo, no hubo retiro definitivo, y en el año 1995 salió a la venta Ozzmosis que, a pesar de las críticas, vendió tres millones y medio de copias. Después de este disco, Ozzy creó el Ozz-Fest, una gira que le incluía a él mismo junto a un puñado de bandas heavy; en el año 1996 sólo actuaron dos veces, pero al año siguiente, el Ozz-Fest tuvo un gran cartel: Pantera, Marilyn Manson y una reunión de los antiguos Black Sabbath. Esta gira obtuvo un extraordinario éxito, y poco después Osbourne reúnió a la formación original de Black Sabbath para grabar un álbum en directo.

John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (born 3 December 1948) is an English heavy
metal vocalist and songwriter. Osbourne rose to prominence as lead
singer of the pioneering English band Black Sabbath, whose dark and hard
sound helped spawn the heavy metal genre. In one episode of the reality
show based on the life of his family, The Osbournes, Osbourne refers to
himself as the "Prince of Darkness", although the term is not generally
applied to him by longtime fans of his music. Osbourne is also known as
the "Godfather of Heavy Metal". In the early 2000s, he became a star in
his own reality show The Osbournes, alongside wife/manager Sharon and
two of their three children, Kelly and Jack. A documentary about his
life and career, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, premiered in April 2011 at the
Tribeca Film Festival and was released on DVD in November 2011.
Osbourne has achieved multi-platinum status as a solo artist and with
Black Sabbath and has sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
