Rock from USA, full-length discography of four albums released between 1996 and 2008.

Alliance is an American Rock band formed in 1991 by Robert Berry, Alan Fitzgerald, David Lauser, and Gary
Pihl. As of mid-2012, they have released five albums.

We all know how busy Robert Berry (Hush, GTR, 3, solo, Ambrosia,
producer), Gary Pihl (Sammy Hagar, Boston), David Lauser (Sammy Hagar)
and Alan Fitzgerald (Montrose, Gamma, Night Ranger) are, so it doesn’t
come as a real surprise that we had to wait nine years for a follow-up
to the wonderful “Missing Piece” album.
The songwriting for this third album already started in 2000, but things
were put on ice when the guys didn’t succeed in writing songs that were
good enough.

Things gained momentum again some three years ago, when Gary Pihl and
Robert Berry started to exchange ideas for new songs by means of MP-3
files that they sent to each other through e-mail. What came out of
these writing sessions sounded a lot fresher than the material that was
written immediately after the release of “Missing Piece” and so the
light turned to green for the writing and recording of a third Alliance
album.
The guys couldn’t have chosen a better title for their third studio
album as the 13 songs on offer easily bring the listener on the road to
(AOR) heaven. Since I got my review copy, I have enjoyed the heavenly
voice of Robert Berry as well as the sparkling keyboards of Fitz and the
fantastic axework of Gary Pihl over and over again.

Honestly, I don’t think we’ll get to hear better pure AOR albums than
this impressive one this year. Pick any track you want and I’m sure
you’ll like it. Among my favourites for the moment are opener “Road To
Heaven”, the ballad “Make A Stand”, the drivin’ rocker “Comin’ Home”,
“Nothin’ Else I Can Do” (highlight # 1) and “Remember Those Days”
(highlight # 2, which was originally written for Ambrosia).
If you call yourself an AOR addict, this album might provide you with
the perfect dose to keep you satisfied for quite a while. Essential!

1996 Bond Of Union

1997 Alliance

1999 Missing Piece

2008 Road To Heaven

Alliance consists of some hugely accomplished musicians from bands like Boston and Nightranger. Their
sound is very obviously influenced by groups like Bad English. Instead
of merely plagiarizing they've taken the West Coast sound and brought it
bang up to date.
Songs like 'Like Me Like That' and 'Broken Glass' are awesome. There's a
wonderful freshness to the sound, and a warmth beautifully summed up by
the sunset on the album cover. Robert Berry's vocals are smooth and
soothing, and the production is exceptional.
The Road To Heaven is a great album full of memorable standalone tracks.
It loses a few marks for lack of originality, but remains an essential
purchase.
