| Traditional metal from Finland, full-length discography of four albums released between 1987 and 1993.
A pseudonymous quartet of Guts (vocals), Crazy (guitar), Risto (bass) and J.T. (bass), Finnish heavy metal/blues rock group Havana Black released their domestic debut album in 1988. This was quickly followed by an international release for Capitol Records. The sound on Indian Warrior was cited by critics as a direct descendent of the mid-70s work of Bad Company and Humble Pie, though their stage presentation had more in common with the street imagery of fellow countrymen Hanoi Rocks. The majority of the songs were the same as those included on their domestic debut, although some of the lyrics had been sanitized for the American market. It was heavily promoted but fared poorly in a market saturated with fellow 70s revivalist bands such as the Black Crowes and the Quireboys.

The official opening of Havana Black's international vinyl-career has finally come. The track list is similar to the album, which was released here in Finland a couple of years ago. The titles of the songs have been specified and the order of the songs has been worked towards a more incisive form. The important aspect to the possible breakthrough of the band is the new mixing by Alan Niven and Wyn Davis. The originally already heavy sound has been mixed up to a more spacious wall of sound, which should do an impression on the sound waves of the great world.
Havana Black's hard rock music is full of hard as stone riffs and the voice of Guts Leiden has exceptional edge, which is very rare on these parallels. Guts's vocal parts are credible even when he sounds like Paul Rodgers (Free).
Indian Warrior draws shamelessly inspiration from early 70's blues based heavy rock, but the final product has a sound of today. Havana Black's rolling sound has a power which brings shame upon many of those dress up American "clown bands" on whose playgrounds Crazy, Risto, Guts and J. T. are going to intrude.
