One of Britain's hardest working bands, Dunfermline's Nazareth are road
warriors par excellence. For four decades they have performed (in
various line-ups, with two constants - bassist Pete Agnew and singer Dan
McCafferty) in front of fervent audiences around the world and 2013
will witness yet another epic global trek to reach the faithful. Though
successful with a variety of approaches, one constant has been their
unimpeachable ability to rock out; to produce loud, proud tracks that
satisfy their fans lust for sheer power, while remaining melodic and
accessible. This collection brings together 18 of their finest heavy
statements, including several hit singles, and proves that Nazareth can
rock as hard and as well as any of their contemporaries. Drawing upon 35
years of material, it begins with their perennial concert opener,
Telegram, takes in crunching highlights from their key 70s, 80s and 90s
long players before resolving itself in the ominous The Gathering from
the acclaimed 2008 album, The Newz. Current guitarist Jimmy Murrison has
been with Nazareth for almost two decades now and it is to his enormous
credit that tracks like The Gathering and Road Trip from The Newz and
the live favourite Light Comes Down from Boogaloo (1998) are every bit
as involving as the classic numbers that established Nazareth as one of
Britain's finest purveyors of hard and heavy rock.
