In between their 2 double album rock operas, Tommy and Quadrophenia, The Who released a single disc with just 9 tracks. That album also was intended to be a rock opera, entitled Lifehouse, but the band simply could not make it work. Instead would become one of the most famous discs in rock history. Who's Next would climb to #4 on the Billboard charts soon after its release in August 1971, and rise all the way to the top spot in the UK. Critics also praised the album, with the Village Voice naming it record of the year and Robert Christgau grading it an A. The disc's legacy has grown through the years, with Rolling Stone, Time, VH1 and Guitar World all naming Who's next as one of the greatest albums of all time. Its track list reads like the playlist of every classic rock station, with such tunes as Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'Riley, Bargain, Behind Blue Eyes, Going Mobile and Getting In Tune.
