| Million Dollar Reload - A Sinner's Saint (2012)
MILLION DOLLAR RELOAD are a Hard Rock band from Belfast, Ireland, but judging their style and sound, I'd swear Belfast is an L.A. suburb. After their 2008's debut the band was signed by Frontiers, for sure a departure from the label usual AOR / Prog minded releases. "A Sinner's Saint" is M$R first album with them.
Taking a closer look at the album cover you find stars and a huge poker chip with a hot chick in it... do you have any doubt's on whether this album is gonna roll or not? This is a ‘judge by the cover’ album. Trust it, cause you will be blown away with this intense, full throttle, balls to the wall rock 'n roll. Million Dollar Reload play a down and dirty brand of bar infused hard rock, the type where the amps crank to eleven and bluesy chord progressions prevail. On these 11 unleashed with tons of energy and swagger, we find many influences from classic bands such as AC/DC, Guns 'N Roses, Aerosmith or Thunder, but also more recent acts like Sleeze Beez or Junkyard. "Bullets In The Sky", the stomping "I Am the Rapture", "Fight the System", and "It Ain't Over" are blistering examples of heavy hitting hard rockers. But then there's "Broken", the only slow song here, and perhaps, the finest example of a melodious heavy rock ballad in some time. Actually, it's the best song here.
"A Sinner's Saint" is perfect for a party on a late one summer night with lots of cold beer and very high volume on your stereo. Million Dollar Reload plays high voltage R'NR, delivering a stabbing guitar attack with nice hooks, groovy drums and a swinging pace throughout the disc. Singer Phil Conlon has a wonderfully long and drawn-out tone in his coarse-grained rock & roll voice that gives that little extra to an otherwise pretty toothless and plain CD. Simple songs full of energy with the necessary groove, licks and catchy melodies to really rock hard, nothing more, nothing less. All recorded and produced with the exact sound and vibe for this tyle. "A Sinner's Saint" will take you back to the glory days of Headbanger's Ball, videoclips with nubile ladies cavorting on cars and barechested singers belting it out in black & white slo-motion in the pouring rain. Certainly a different band in Frontier's rooster. Crank it to 10.
