Aunque es más conocido hoy en día como la banda donde el vocalista Bruce Dickinson hizo su aprendizaje de metal antes de unirse a los devorador de mundos, Iron Maiden, Sansón todavía justamente considerado como una de las bandas fundamentales de la nueva ola del movimiento británico de Heavy Metal de los años 80 . Tomando su nombre del guitarrista y líder, Paul Samson, la banda apareció por primera vez en 1977 de las cenizas de otro grupo homónimo nombre, McCoy cuyo líder bajista John McCoy fue jefe de banda epónimo llamado Ian Gillans s, Gillan, tras la salida del vocalista de Deep Purple.

Although best known today as the band where lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson served his Metal apprenticeship prior to joining those eater of worlds, Iron Maiden, Samson are still rightly regarded as one of the pivotal bands from the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement of the 80s. Taking their name from guitarist and leader, Paul Samson, the band first emerged in 1977 from the ashes of another eponymously named band, McCoy whose leader bassist John McCoy was headhunted for Ian Gillans s eponymously named band, Gillan, following the vocalist's departure from Deep Purple.
