NEAL SCHON(JOURNEY) - The Calling (2012)



NEAL SCHON, the mastermind behind legendary bands Journey, Bad English and Hardline is releasing another solo album published by Frontiers Records.
"The Calling", the follow up to 2005's 'I On U' CD reunites Neal with his former Journey colleague Steve Smith and also on 2 tracks with Jan Hammer.

Soon after overdubbing several guitars as well as bass parts, Schon recruited two keyboard masters to flesh out the music. Igor Len, an accomplished classical, jazz and film composer who had previously contributed with Schon, and special guest Jan Hammer (Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miami Vice soundtrack) taped Moog synth solos on two tracks.
"The Calling" additionally symbolizes a reunification with former Journey player and active in-demand drummer Steve Smith, who loans his great skills to all 12 tracks on the recording.
"The Calling" is a good and highly listeneable instrumental album plenty of melodic moments extremely well played.
There are so many styles involved from hard rock, funk, rockin' blues and also finds Schon at his best when recalling his fusion past in a couple of tracks.
Schon definitely has his signature guitar sound and style embodied in this recording, helped by the top musicianship of the personnel involved.
